What moves the price

Three things, in order of how much they matter.

Meal period is the biggest single jump on the board. The seafood bar is the reason. Snow crab legs, raw oysters, clams and crawfish get restocked far more heavily for evening service, so the dinner rate buys a genuinely bigger spread rather than the same food at a later hour.

Day of the week comes next. Weekend pricing sits above weekday pricing at both lunch and dinner. Monday through Thursday lunch is where the value is, and it is the window locals name most often when asked for the cheapest way to eat here.

Age bracket does the rest. Seniors get 10% off. Kids are priced on a sliding scale that steps up toward the adult rate, and the step usually lands somewhere around age 12. A family with two teenagers pays close to four adult rates, which is how a weekend dinner for four ends up near $150.

What the rate does not cover

Drinks, tax and gratuity are all separate. Soft drinks, tea, beer and wine are billed on top of the buffet price. This is the part that catches first timers, because the number quoted on the phone or on a review site is the food-only figure. Budget roughly $5 to $8 per head above the sticker price once drinks and tip are in.

Two policies worth knowing before you sit down

We post a two hour cap on how long a table can stay. On a quiet weekday lunch nobody is watching the clock. On a packed Saturday night with a line at the door it matters, especially for large parties.

We also post a $50 charge for leaving with food from the buffet line. Takeout is available, but it is ordered and priced separately at the counter, so please do not box up leftovers from your plate.

How the price compares nearby

Guests who buffet-hop around the East Bay and South Bay place us above Newark Buffet in Newark and World Gourmet in Fremont on price. We win on seafood volume and on location if you are coming off I-880 or I-680. If price alone is driving the decision, those two come up as the cheaper alternatives, though you give up much of the crab and oyster spread.

Catering and party trays

Large trays for parties and office lunches run from about $30 to $60 and up depending on the dish. They are ordered at the counter rather than through the buffet line, and are priced per tray rather than per person. Call ahead with a pickup time.

Group pricing

There is no flat group rate and no private room fee. A party of twelve pays twelve individual rates. What changes for a large group is the wait, not the price.
