Milpitas Buffet Takeout and Party Trays: Full Menu and Prices

Takeout at Milpitas Buffet means party trays, ordered separately from the buffet line.

Takeout at Milpitas Buffet works one way: you order party trays at the counter or by phone. Trays are priced per tray, not per person.

The restaurant's tray list has 44 items, from $10 for steamed rice to $60 for duck. Here is the full list, a simple way to work out how many you need, and what to ask before you order.

Can you take buffet food home?

No. Diners on Tripadvisor report a posted $50 charge for leaving with food from the buffet line, and the restaurant enforces it.

If you want food to go, order a tray instead of filling a container from the line. There is no per-pound takeout option published.

Tray sizes and serving counts are not published, so ask how many people each tray feeds. Honey walnut prawns are on the buffet line but not on the tray list; ask if they can be made as a tray.

How many trays to order

A common planning rule for Chinese party trays is one protein tray for every 6 to 8 adults, one rice or noodle tray for every two protein trays, and one vegetable tray for every 10 to 15 guests. Use it as a starting point, then confirm with the counter.

GuestsProtein traysRice or noodlesVegetablesRough total
102 (e.g., orange chicken, broccoli beef)1 fried rice1About $115
20321 or 2About $170 to $195
304 or 52 or 32About $240 to $300

Totals use the $35 chicken and beef trays, $20 fried rice and $25 vegetable trays, before tax. Add seafood or duck and the total rises quickly.

Which trays travel best

  • Travel well: BBQ ribs, broccoli beef, orange chicken, lo mein, fried rice. Sauce keeps them moist.
  • Travel poorly: anything fried. Egg rolls, wings and tempura lose their crunch in a closed container.
  • Pick up fried trays last and serve them first.
  • Eat seafood trays soon after pickup, and do not leave them in a warm car.

Ordering and pickup

  • Call (408) 945-8888 a day or more ahead for large orders.
  • Give a headcount and pickup time, not just a list of dishes.
  • Ask what comes with the order: serving spoons, sauces, plates.
  • Ask about payment and whether a deposit is needed for big orders.
  • Delivery is not listed for trays; plan on pickup at 24 S Abbott Ave.

Trays vs eating at the buffet

For 10 guests, the tray order above runs about $115, or roughly $12 per person. Ten adults at the buffet would pay roughly $180 to $320, depending on the meal period.

Trays win on price, but you give up the crab, sushi counter and grill. If the group wants the full spread, the large group birthday guide covers eating in, and dine-in rates are in the price per person guide.
